Commonwealth Fusion Systems Installs Magnet in Sparc Reactor, Partners with Nvidia

Commonwealth Fusion Systems (CFS) announced the installation of the first magnet in its Sparc fusion reactor during CES 2026, marking a significant milestone in the development of the demonstration device expected to be operational next year.

The magnet is designed to withstand extreme conditions and is crucial for containing the plasma necessary for fusion reactions. CFS aims to demonstrate the feasibility of fusion energy as a viable power source.

In addition to the magnet installation, CFS has secured a partnership with Nvidia to enhance modeling and simulation processes critical to optimizing reactor performance and safety.

The fusion startup has raised over $300 million in funding from investors including Breakthrough Energy Ventures and major energy firms. The partnership with Nvidia could accelerate CFS’s timeline for practical fusion energy applications.

With the magnet installed, CFS is now focused on the next phases of reactor assembly and testing in preparation for its initial plasma operations.
